#AFoodAffair: The Smug Fig

Tucked in the vicinity of East Brisbane is The Smug Fig, a breakfast/brunch place serving up meals every day of the week.

Greeted by leafy greens and an inviting entrance with open doors.

Pop of blue grabs the eye.

Next to the entrance is the container “counter”, where food is ordered and coffee + other concoctions are made to serve for both in-house and takeaway.

While looking unmistakenly “hipster”, it’s actually linked to an antiques shop and plant nursery, which makes sense for its mix of nature, modern and rustic. But what really stands out once you walk in is the beautiful mural backdrop.

Before this photo was taken seats were actually filled to the brim, but it didn’t feel so crowded because of the venue’s huge, open space. Conversations at 10am spread across the room, but I have no complaints. It’s a community of friends and family – all good vibes ahead.

Front page specials = very tempting, but also limited options (although black forest french toast sounded inviting in such a sinful way), so… the all-day brunch menu seemed like a healthier option (for the day, at least). 😁

Details, details…

BEAN SKILLET (V)
BEAN SKILLET (V): “Five beans, sweet potato and season herbs in a tangy tomato sauce, fried egg and parmesan charcoal sourdough.” – $17
CRUSHED AVO (V)
CRUSHED AVO (V): “Crushed avo, charcoal sourdough, citrus labneh, almonds, pumpkin & sesame seeds.” – $14.5

The verdict? Amazing and worth every tangy kick, crunch and creamy goodness your taste buds will thank you for. However, the price is definitely on the higher side, and the portion isn’t enough to match. One meal serves just enough for one person, so no sharing!

A second visit is tempting but only as a well-deserved treat.
